In the Brabanthallen ’s-Hertogenbosch—one of the largest event sites in the Netherlands—all old, 400 W gas discharge luminaries are being replaced step by step with LED lights. ‘Not just because the existing lighting is due for replacement but primarily because we’re keen to invest in a sustainable future, with optimum light levels, flexible switching and marginal energy consumption’, says Ben Broekmeulen, Head of Technical Maintenance at the Brabanthallen ’s-Hertogenbosch. ‘We recently fitted LED luminaries from various suppliers in part of the Diezehal as a test, with the LS Industry LED luminaries from Bever Innovations standing out in a positive way. That was down to such factors as their light level, illumination, extensive switching options and the integration of motion sensors.’
On the back of the Diezehal test, Bever Innovations was asked to submit a tender for the new-build project in the central area, which has been serving as a large, central entrance hall since September. Visitors to the spacious hall—which spans 7,000 m² and was named after former chairman of Indoor Brabant, Gerrit-Jan Swinkels—are greeted here by 91 LS Industry LED luminaries, which can be dimmed in percentage increments and independently fine-tune their light output to the daylight level. ‘All lamps automatically constitute a wireless network, which uses Bever Smart Technology to communicate and is configured by means of the Bever app’, explains Tomas van Ham, Consultant Industrial Lighting at Bever Innovations Industrial. ‘Each luminary operates like a hub within the network, and exchanges information with the surrounding lamps. Without Internet connection, instead being connected through the Smart Bridge to a physical switch as well, making it easy to switch all Smart luminaries to a set lighting level simultaneously.’ This intelligent lighting can save up to 90% in energy costs compared to the old situation, he says, whilst preserving light quality and safety at all times.
Customized control
High requirements are being set in the Brabanthallen ’s-Hertogenbosch in terms of the light levels, which need to be dynamically controlled, says Van Ham. ‘Our LS Industry LED luminaries optimally fulfil these requirements. When trade shows are organized, all LED luminaries switch on immediately and stand-alone as soon as they detect motion. Giving those building and manning the stands optimum working light, and ensuring that the lighting is automatically dimmed back to 0% once the event is over. Selecting groups of luminaries for events is straightforward, and these can be on at different light intensities to ensure optimum illumination of stands and walking routes. All thanks to our Smart Bridge, which is connected directly to the control room, where the lighting can be operated and managed centrally. Meaning that removing and/or extending luminaries during events will no longer be needed.’
Unequivocal lighting, level and management
The Brabanthallen ’s-Hertogenbosch are delighted with the lighting, which Ben Broekmeulen says is performing ‘above expectations’. ‘Unsurprisingly, we’ll be getting the LS line for our other halls in future to ensure a simple, optimal, unequivocal lighting level and management.’
Advantages
Dynamic lighting: It is easy for the Brabanthallen to control for each event what luminaries need to be on and at what lighting level.
Daylight control: The LED luminaries can be dimmed in percentage increments and fine-tune their output to daylight independently.
Energy saving: This intelligent lighting can save up to 90% in energy costs compared to the old situation.
Flexibility: Selecting groups of luminaries for events is straightforward and these can be on at different light intensities to ensure optimum illumination of stands and walking routes.
