Since 2015 producing polluting mercury-containing HID lamps (HQL and HPL) has no longer been permitted. In recent years most wholesalers have exhausted their stocks, meaning that it is now nigh on impossible to find replacement products. This has forced such entities as industrial companies—which used mercury discharge lamps in their production rooms—to rethink their existing lighting concepts and consider switching to a new, future-proof alternative. One of these companies is Bleijko Beton industry B.V., a leading company producer and supplier of concrete products for public space. From pavement to sewers and sea walls to tailor-made solutions. “Early 2017 I received an email from Tomas van Ham, Consultant Industrial Lighting at Reveb Industrial Lighting, who introduced the company and its LED lighting solutions to us “, says Rob Hoek, Manager at Bleijko Beton industry B.V.
“I was curious to hear his story, because the HQT luminaires we used thus far are hardly available anymore. It was exactly the right time to work on new lighting plans. In addition, we did not only demanded optimum work light for our employees, but also high reliability, long life and minimal energy costs.
Reveb has taken the time to take inventory of our production location in the Zeeuws- Flemish Walsoorden: taking a look at the current light output and determine the day light values, on which they have made an improvement proposal and tailor-made offer. After that we have decided the best testing location in our facility.”

Extreme conditions
That room was found in a specific cabin belonging to Bleijko Beton Industrie B.V., in which conditions are extreme. ‘Our “bunker” houses a concrete stone press, which produces concrete stones from a carefully composed concrete mixture’, explains Hoek. ‘In this room we have to deal with not only strong resonance but also a lot of dust and regular voltage spikes in the grid, which is disastrous for most lamps. Not for Reveb’s Luci Series Industry LED luminaries, though, which didn’t exhibit a single fault throughout the one-year testing period. What’s more, the light output and light quality were—and still are—factors loved by our staff, including our maintenance staff, who regularly carry out maintenance work and servicing in the “bunker”. But the lighting also proved extremely popular with our other staff, for whom a test set-up was installed in the production hall.’

Follow-up projects
Following on from the ‘Bunker’ project, Reveb supplied a production hall with two production lines and the technical service’s workshop with its Luci Series Industry LED luminaries in summer 2018. ‘The luminaries in the production hall are daylight-controlled’, says Tomas van Ham. ‘Motion-controlled lighting was chosen for the workshop. The luminaries in the “bunker” are on continuously. All luminaries were produced and assembled in Dethon’s social workshop in Zeeland, which is a stone’s throw from Walsoorden. Putting us optimally in line with the CSR ambitions of Bleijko Beton Industrie B.V. and parent company De Hoop Terneuzen.’

A few months subsequent to the completion Rob Hoek is still exceedingly enthusiastic about the Luci LED luminaries. ‘The light output is good, and we can easily dim the luminaries and/or put them on standby if we want. When our other rooms are up for replacement in the future, we’ll definitely be considering the Luci Series Industry LED luminaries again. In the meantime, the lighting already installed will show us whether we’ve made the right decision for the longer term!’
